Business and commercial waste cannot be disposed of at these centers. Commercial contractors must make other arrangements for the disposal of waste generated by their work.
Solid Waste Collection Station Hours:Effective November 1, 2010, both of the County's attended solid waste collection centers will be operating on the following schedule:
Monday through Friday from 7am - 7pm and on weekends and most holidays from 8am - 4pm.
Both solid waste collection centers will be closed on July 4th, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Easter Sunday.
Closure of Mantura Road Dumpster Site:
The dumpster site located on Mantura Road will be closed permanently, effective July 2, 2010. Surry County residents that use this site are kindly asked to carry their household refuse to the Goodson Path Collection Center or subscribe to the curb-side collection service that is offered to County residents at a nominal fee. For information on curb-side collection, residents should call A.V.E.S. at (757) 357-9997. For directions to the Goodson Path Collection Center, click here.
The difficult decision to close this dumpster site was made in response to ongoing problems with illegal dumping and scavenging at this site. Unfortunately, these activities increase the refuse collection/disposal costs paid by Surry County taxpayers.
In addition to the Goodson Path Collection Center and curb-side collection, the County is actively seeking a site to build an additional collection center to serve the eastern portion of the County.
