The Department of Public Works strives for excellence while providing safe, quality and efficient services in a fiscally responsible manner.
The Maintenance Division is primarily responsible for the maintenance and operations of the County’s buildings and grounds to include but not limited to general housekeeping, electrical, mechanical, plumbing work and lawn care maintenance. Some of these services are contracted to companies specializing in these areas if needed.
The Fleet Management Division is responsible for maintenance and upkeep of all County vehicles.
The Sanitation Division manages the disposal of solid waste, recycling and composting.
NOTICE TO RESIDENTS: Colonial Pipeline passes through Surry County delivering natural gas to our region. Property owners along the pipeline may occassionally observe pipeline company contractors trimming or cutting the trees on the pipeline right-of-way. These activities are designed to maintain safety, as tree and shrub overgrowth can pose a threat to both pipeline integrity and early spill identification. For more information on these activities:
