Services Offered

Through teamwork and innovation, the Surry County Department of Social Services is committed to helping residents achieve the highest quality of life possible by providing services which sustain, protect and empower families and individuals. The Department administers the following programs:

  • Adult Services
  • Child and Adult Protective Services
  • Child Care Assistance
  • Employment Services
  • Family Prevention Services
  • Foster Care; Adoption Assistance
  • Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
  • Medicaid
  • Senior Services
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

These services are provided by a courteous, compassionate and competent staff dedicated to preserving the dignity of their clients and each other. Although staff administers an array of entitlement programs, the aim of the team of employees at the Surry County Department of Social Services is to promote the personal and economic self-sufficiency of the eligible households that are served. 

Surry County Department of Social Services will continue to be accountable to the families served, to the public and to ourselves. We will continue to strive to provide the best and most effective services to all individuals in the community regardless of race, creed or nationality.

Mission

It is the mission of the Surry County Department of Social Services to improve the quality of life for citizens of Surry County who are in need by providing an array of services while building for the future of our community.
