To register to vote in Virginia, you must be a United States citizen, be a resident of Virginia, be 18 years old by the next general election, and had your rights restored if you have ever been convicted of a felony or declared mentally incapacitated.
A voter application must be fully completed to be eligible to vote in Virginia. You may request a voter registration application or an absentee application from the Registrar's Office in person or by mail. Voter registration applications are also available at any Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Office, the Department of Social Services, or Health Department.
Once the Registrar receives your completed application, it will be reviewed and if everything is filled out properly, a voter card will be mailed to you. The voter card will have your name, address, the name and address of your polling place, and the election district in which you are eligible to vote.
