The County offers annual leave and sick leave for eligible employees to cover time off for vacation, absences for personal reasons, and paid time off for health-related reasons. Most eligible employees earn the equivalent of 1 day of leave per month or 12 days per year for less than 5 years of service; 1 day and 2 hours per month or 15 days per year for 5 to 10 years of service; 1 day and 4 hours per month or 18 days per year for over 10 years of service.
Sick leave is considered a privilege and shall be accrued at the rate of 8 hours per month for full time employees. Sick leave does not accrue when an employee is on leave without pay. Sick leave benefits are not paid out upon termination of employment. Sick leave balances may be earned over from year to year and shall be limited to a maximum of 960 hours. Employees shall retain all benefits while on approved sick leave.
Civil leave may be used by eligible employees while serving on a jury or attending court as a witness under subpoena.
Eligible employees are provided funeral leave for up to 3 days per death of an immediate family member.
Military leave may be used by eligible employees who are a member of the organized reserve forces of any of the armed services of the United States, National Guard, or naval militia to provide paid absences of up to 15 days per Federal fiscal year when called to active duty for training or when called by the Governor to serve during a disaster.
Educational leave may be authorized for specific courses of study related to work in the County. This leave shall be considered on an individual basis and approved by the County Administrator.
